at 40 yards with a high velocity round. it is very likely they went thru without expanding..The early Balistic tips did the same thing. All the tip does is keep the point from being damaged, and start the initial expansion. How fast it expands depends on the jacket expansion.

I just got a box of Rem. Core-Locs for the .270 Win. Short Mag. They always did a good job in my .270 Win. I wish I'd had my .45-70. I'll probably start using it more when I'm not where I'd have some long shots.

Scott when I hunted a lot you couldn't give me anything but the Federal Premiums you were talking about. They will put a deer down faster than any bullet I ever used. As for all these poly tips and silver tips they are fine in open areas but my problem with the silver tips was if they hit anything including a bone or a twig they would just explode into pieces.
That's being said bullets is like ford or chevy or State or Ole Miss, this question will always get an argument started lol.

I will be willing to bet that the Remington C/L have killed as many head of game as any other round. They don't get the glamour and hype, but they are deadly on deer sized game. And they are very accurate out of most hunting type rifles. That is my opinion based on years as a firearms instructor, reloader, range officer and hunter. I think allot of this new stuff is more for the hunter than the game.

Well we found my deer. It's a wonder my buddy and I didn't step on him last night. He was about 100 yds from the green patch and the way he fell, you couldn't see his white stomach. He's a 6 point, not an 8 like I thought. It was dark-thirty when i shot him and its not cold enough for me to trust that the meat's still good. What a waste, it makes me sick.

man I hate that !!! that's why I will not shoot a poly or ballistic tip projectile !!! did you notice where all the blood went was all in the hair of the deer ? we had a guy in our hunting club shoot one and there was only 1 drop of blood the deer went 100 yards before going down and all the blood was in the hair cause of the bullet going straight thru without expansion !!!

I hit him right where I was aiming. Right behind the shoulder and midways, up and down. He was angling away from me slightly when i shot him. The exit wound was in the right shoulder and the same size as the entrance wound. I guess I learned a hard lesson about using long range bullets at close range. I think his body cavity was filled with all the blood. When he fell he made a pretty big puddle.
