Supreme and Symytre I swore by the Supreme and my partner swore by the Symytre. Both are good and have lasted a long time.

Hate to say this, but none of the above. I am a Shimano guy, but I do go for high end reels which I know are not for everyone, but I like how smooth they are and all the bearings help. First you should know Shimano is the largest gear MFG. in the world and make something like 75% of all the gears in all the cars and trucks made. So they have the knowledge, engineering and equipment to make the best gears, but they also have a great drag system IMHO!
I also know that I spend too much on my rods and reels, but it's just what I do.

Shimano hands down. I have some over 30 years old and still going strong. If possible take your rod to the store with you or one of the big box stores and ask if you can put it on to check the balance. You can always order on-line for a cheaper price but making sure it's a nice fit is important too.

I started fishing a yearn and a half ago. been buying new reels like crazy. one thing I figured out is that the president is hard to beat for price to performance. another thing is that its hard to go wrong with pflueger reels. I have 6 presidents (two 35 I'm selling), 3 echelons, 5 various bair caster, a 20 sized trion, and even to underspin micro works okay once I cleaned it up.

i get the same feeling sometimes that if i spend more maybe ill get more. i think the president line is bang for the buck. you will probablt start to see less for your money as you move up the line but there are obviously some upgrades. i will probably buy into something sooner or later but really if i can find a decently priced president XT I'd be happy for a while.

For some reason, Daiwa often gets left out of these discussions which is a mistake, IMO. I agree that Shimano is hard to beat. If they're #1, though, Daiwa is #1A.
