I bought an Elite 7 HDI a while back an started getting ready to install it on my boat. One of the first things I did was to check to see if the US2 on my Terrova 24v would work with it. Well I found out it wouldn't! So I said no big deal, I'll just mount it to the bottom of the TM. Wrong again! After reading a good bit I found out that the wire on the Lowrance units is too big to fit in the groove on the TM shafts. Well dang! So I came up with an idea. I decided to try it anyway.
I cut the insulation off the wire just were it would be in the groove(yes I know this will probably void the warranty but oh well). There are five wires and all of them are shielded individually. That would give me enough play room for it to slide up and down in the TM mount. Then I glued the bundle of wires right in the middle of the groove so that they were held tight to the bottom of the groove. Next after making a "form", I poured the whole groove full of polyester fiberglass resin tinted in black... I've still got to do some sanding but it came out looking pretty good. Here are a few pics. The little cross pattern you see all along the shaft is where I had the zip ties holding the "form" in place...

Replacement on the TM will be a new one. And I'm hoping nothing happens to the transducer...

I like! Seems to me some on could supply a replacement shaft with a deeper grove for us less fortunates that possess the "other" brand sonar.

I think the router is the right idea, but not to open the groove. A roundover bit in the right diameter would trim the excess perfectly round and leave the cleanest finish behind. The prob I see opening the groove is alignment, as a tiny wobble would go thru to the internal wires.

Wonder if you couldn't buy replacement shaft, place it on the cnc, done in 1 pass, or 2, any lowrance users know the diameter of that cable?

The diameter is slightly bigger than a 1/4". I'd say 9/32". Haven't put a caliper on it.
