jighead colors - how important?
I'm about to buy some bulk jigheads for plastics and was wondering how important you feel that they are colored? What is your favorite?
Have you had days where unpainted jigheads would not get bit vs painted ones?
You can get so many more unpainted - just thought I would check first.

I'm not sure about painted jigheads. I never use them for crappies but I know that perch and bluegills care for plain jigheads. You always seem to catch more of them if you use a painted head or tube head.
For crappies I always use tube heads that can be inserted into the body of the jig. The jig sinks a little slower and looks more natural that way...that seems to lead to more fish in the boat most days.

yea i have some of those insert tube heads. You not fishing other baits too often then slab? Ive been trying to mix it up with squirts and beavers and that type of stuff occasionally.

Just crankbaits and tubes for me lol. I try to keep it as simple and slow moving as I can.
Btw, we need to hook up soon dude. The slabs are hitting good on my zipperlip lake. You busy on the 6th?

i fish unpainted jig heads for crappie all the time and catch lots of crappie.
they will hit them most days under all kinds of conditions muddy clear cloudy or sunny

I wonder if baits are colored to catch fisherman? Although I paint some of my heads I see no difference in the amount of fish they catch. Others may and probably disagree with me but thats OK.

Can you tell me where and when I can go to get some of these crappies. I went to the Snake river on Friday and returned late last night but didn't catch that many pan fish. Got a few bass though. It wasn't a good trip all in all since I thought the Snake river is supposed to be filled with pan fish. The place I went to didn't have that many or perhaps it wasn't the right time of the year.

Bpm...Unpainted jigs work fine. I learned the following while catching many crappie long ago in a slough and small lakes along the lower Columbia, but this works anywhere. In general, crappie i
n clearer waters love drab-colored jigs, such as an unpainted head dressed in marabou or tipped with a small tube body that’s some minnow or insect color. A bright color, though, is good when you first start the day’s search fishing at clear water. You could use a white or chartreuse tube that slips over the jighead. At water that’s dingy, like it usually was at the slough, the fish don’t see the details so a good-sized colorful tube behind an unpainted jighead usually works just fine.
