    Default Nottoway Fri./ Branch Sat.

Josh (my youngest) and I hit the Nottoway yesterday after work. Got there between 4:30 and 5PM. Our plan was to catch some shellcrackers and bluegill.
Well, we caught both, but they were mostly really small. I was disappointed to say the least. We caught about 20 bream/crackers, with only one being a true "keeper". We kept a couple of hook swallowers, and one white perch. Caught a couple of really small crappie, Josh caught a gar......not what we had in mind. River looked fine considering all the rain we've had.
We decided we should go again today. I had "stuff to do", so we got to WB about 1 or so. Went to the cove where I caught the big perch last time. We drifted minnow/slip bobber, and minnow/jig/bobber rigs at various depths. Josh caught the first fish, a 14" yellow perch! He also caught the second, a 13+incher. He was a happy camper. We moved towards the end of the cove slowly, picking up fish along the way. I was the pickerel "champion" with 6.
We got into some crappie as we moved shallower, and the biggest one.......Josh caught, 13 1/4". He really had a great day. One to remember. He also caught a 12" white perch. We ended up with 7 crappie, 15 yellow perch, and the one white perch. A fun day.
This picture doesn't do this crappie justice.

Awesome, those are good looking Ring Perch. You didn't mention that white perch that;s in the cooler, looks like a nice one. Sounds like Josh put the slammer on ya. I say that's a good days catch. Hope to see more.

Nice job Les. Nothing beats quality time with your son. You seem to do a lot better than me at WB. I worked all the way to the back of one cove without so much as a bite so I decided to work open water and mouths of coves.
