It is an impoundment of the New River near Radford.

Welcome to the board. I can't help you, only give you some 2nd hand hearsay. My neighbor/occasional fishing partner back in TX was born and
raised in Pulaski, VA, and he loved to crappie fish. He raved about Claytor
Lake all the time. He passed on 7 yrs. back but he was my age (48 now)
and I either never asked or don't remember if this was when he was a kid
or over the years when he went home to visit. I don't know if it is a natu-
ral lake or impoundment (I think PanMan said), not that it matters. All I can
say is at some point there was good crappie fishing there. He was about
as honest with his fish stories as they come. Well, he kept his lies fairly
    believeable anyway. :p Good luck.

Give Clapboard Hollow,Lighthouse Bridge & Peak Creek a try. Go all the way back in Peak Creek to the Rt 100 Bridge & fish the pilings and lay downs.

    Hope this helps.................

Claytor is a tough lake to fish.....the fish will go deeeeep quick and scatter. When I fish Claytor I start at the Lighthouse Bridge and fish coves down to the last cove on the left before reaching the dam...This cove has 2 metal buildings on the left after entering the cove. Fish in front of the 2nd building. There is a pretty good brushpile there and you may also catch a couple of Perch...

    Hope this helps....

I will go to the Peak Creek with my friends this weekend. Any particular spots but the pilings and lay downs?
