Default Think the spawn is over?

I caught a substantial number of crappie at Chick Lake the tail end of this week. I couldn’t find any of them really shallow and tried in the back of numerous coves and creeks. Most my fish came from around 5’ including in the creek channel or creek mouth and not a single one was fat with eggs. The smaller fish came from creek channels and I assumed these were males. The bigger fish (12” to 14”) were very dark and outside the creek mouth - were these darker ones males too? Water was 64 to 68. I’m really confused why none seemed full of eggs.

Yep, they males (hence no eggs)

I don't know about V'ginny fish, but I'd think that if the males are still out at the mouth of the creeks/bays, they're just moving in ... albeit a little behind schedule (according to the water temps). Well, unless they're done & on their way out to the channel & just haven't taken their tux's off, yet.

The main spawn hasn't taken place yet in Virginia due to the cold winter / spring. They will start to move in if we get some warmer weather with this full moon. My best guess is it will be another two weeks before we see the majority move in.

Caught about 30 good fish at an area lake. Water had dropped 5 degrees to 59 from last week. None of the fish had eggs nor had darkened up. The pic I posted above was from a lake 2 hours east of me where the temps are milder.

I have been doing a ton of crappie fishing this year and recalled a lot of good memories fishing with Corker. I last spoke with him a few (or more) years ago and he didn’t sound like he was doing a lot of fishing at the time. Corker fished with Doodlum more than me so we never kept in touch. I had my telescoping poles out last week which brought back a lot of Corker memories.

Those were good times. I talked to Doodlum about a month ago. Nice chat. Is Corker still around? Don G and Bill and Boscoe and JimB prove that you don't need to live a good clean life to get old.
