Default Putting trees in the NWR

Does any body know the rules of putting Christmas trees and such in our local rivers? I would like to put some in around NWR, and a few of the creeks. I have sent emails to the va folks but with no response. Asked one of the officers but he wasn't sure. Christmas is right around the corner.

Good question. I know you can't put them in the reservoirs around here, but that is because they are owned by the cities. I'm not sure about the river. However, I have seen people place them.

Years ago I talked to one of the eel trappers that worked out of West Neck, he had a huge boat loaf of stuff. he said it was legal as long as it was not in a marked channel, that's second hand info plus those guys are kinda wierd, I mean who wants to spend all days messing with eels! Might check with Marine police, maybe Corps of Engineers, I'm not even sure who to ask. Like Kevin said I've seen people doing it, I'd just do it and plead ignorance if caught, pretty sure you'd get off with a warning the first time.

The wardens don't even know in NC. Talked to 3 different wardens and all had different answers so I guess it's who sees you doing it and what their attitude is that day.

That was my response when I asked the guy after giving me the check over here in Currituck. He didn't have a clue. Thanks guys I am going to be sinking some houses for the fish to live in.
