I've caught them off the stumps but catch a lot more that are just roamin, presumably chasin bait. they seem to relate more to very slight changes in the bottom contours, like little 6 inch drops. the channels are mostly silted in back there, except for Big Buffalo, and I do better goin back an forth over the remainin channlel breaks. and some days you gotta be on the sunny banks that the wind is hittin. some days its hard to pin down any kinda pattern, an some days ya pattern works every where! I thinks its best to go with no preconcieved notions an try every thing you can think of til something works. not very scientific but thats Spring fishin!

i check them stumps regularly when the fish get in shallow water- like 3-4 fow in the spring- some days nothing but some days a big ol slab beside every stump- dont know what makes the difference in days but had enough good ones to keep trying- i single rod fish em with a 1/32 oz jig - slip up & slip it in the water beside the stump trying to not even make a ripple- sight fishing- go from stump to stump- usually only 1 fish per stump but usually a fish at every second or third stump- had 1 day last spring i had fished all day & was looking at a skunk- went back in there last hour or so of daylight and before plum dark had 12 over a lb. fun stuff!! know a few more spots like that too - not just in buffalo-
