Hit the Northwest today
I was going to head to Suffolk for some green carp, but changed gears this morning and went to the river for some perch. It was a good move. I didn't catch anything photo worthy, but I absolutely loaded the boat with male YP from 10-11". I only caught two females all day, both just shy of 12". I tossed both of them back. They were about to bust they were so full of roe. Every other perch I caught was excreting milt all over the boat. What a mess.
I would say the fish favored jigs today, but not by a large margin. I had one spot that I found them stacked up, but only in about a 10x10 ft. area. If I tossed the jig in there, I was hit every time. I tried to see if they would hit minnows, but they wouldn't event give them a second look. Every time I went back to the jig I would get hit.
My fish today were in 10-11 FOW and right on bottom. My by-catch included bass, striped bass, bluegill, white perch and flier.
I kept a few for dinner (I'm stuffed right now) and released the rest for the next time. I ended the day with easily more than 100 fish total. It should prove to be a great bash. Good luck, guys.
