but man what a fight. My buddy Kenny finally got his first one Saturday. Yes Virginia we do have our own river monsters. And only 20 minutes from my house to the ramp. I've caught 3 over the past few years and had many bite off or get hooked and get away. Once I saw one over 4 feet long grab and swallow a 1 pound smallmouth from my line, just opened its mouth and the bass was gone. This one hit a buzzbait early Saturday morning, 36 inches, 14 plus pounds. released alive to grow up. I had two on yesterday, one bit the lure off and the other fought like crazy for about 3 minutes and then just threw the hook.
There is nothing else swimming around here that can pull like one of these. Oh yeah, we did catch one lone crappie Saturday too.

"fish on!!!"
(What a great day for fishing) lol.
its a Musky. In Virginia the James and New River have a lot of them. They are bigger in the New. VDGIF biologist told me they shocked a 50 incher in the section we fish. I've caught them to 46 inches, 23 pounds. Seen bigger. State record from the New is 45+ pounds. Real live monsters.

Now that brings back some old memories. I use to fish the New river and yes the Musky fishing there is great. Tell your friend really nice catch!!!!!!!
Nice monster fish. Might have a hard time getting one in on my 4 pound test. Congrads to you and your friend, I'm sure that takes some teamwork to get one in the boat.
