Default Tired, but gotta keep, KEEPING ON !

Thursday I was crappie fishing on the James. We did good. Nothing big but lots of fun. Ended the day by following a VDGF shocking boat around the river. They were collecting blue and flathead catfish. I asked if they had shocked up any crappie, and they said no. No because they were using the wrong frequency for crappie. Said the different fish respond to different frequencies. They were using 15 hz for the two catfish. Said it they were targeting crappie they would use 60 hz. Said that channel catfish don't really respond to shocking. That was interesting.

Friday a buddy took me to Lake Chesdin. He has been on good crappie. That normally doesn't go with Chesdin, but he has found some. We caught a bunch. Biggest for 14.5 ". Quite a few 12-13" fish. I was amazed.

Saturday back to the James in Richmond for American and Hickory shad, herring and white perch. A great day of catching. I was alone in the morning. As I launched, watched a man come to the end of the ramp and toss something into the river and said a few things in a language that I didn't understand. He was launching a kayak. He paddled by me soon after. Not much time passed and he was coming back down river. I ask why he was leaving the shad area. He was trying to retrieve his shad spoon and lost his anchor. Said he was heading in. I asked him to fsih wtih me. He accepted. Tied off his yak and came aboard. For the next 2-3 hours, we caught fish and talked. He is almost full blooded Iroquois. I asked about what I saw. He offered the river and the creator bit of tobacco. He explian much more and didn't seem to mind my questions. My wife called and offered to bring me lunch. She did and her and my daughter fished with me for the next 2 hours. Enough herring and shad to make you bored with catching. I got a call and a text pic from Chesdin buddy. A 17.5" crappie at 2 lb 8.75 oz. I hate him.

Sunday back to chesdin with him. His first cast was a 15.5" and before he landed it I had on a fat 13"er. Those were the only nice ones. We caught many typical Chesdin fish. I left at lunch time when his daugher arrived.

Monday. Both my sisters will be here shortly. Going to Richmond to hopefully bet them tired of catching. Will report later.

I'm tired. Need to go back to work to rest up.

Have a great day fellas. I'm going to.

I was out there on Saturday too. The guy that lost his anchor wasn't by chance in a yellow kayak smoking a pipe? Think I talked to the same guy.

    Nice job Dayton.

I caught a bunch on the Appomattox last weekend, went striper fishing yesterday in the James, and today I'm going to a private pond in Ashland.

By the way, the boys are now out of school and are both Petersburg police officers. You have a get out of jail free card in the Cockade City.

We need to fish together sometime.

Sounds like you had a great day on the river and at Chesdin. Now you know what it feels like to be retired and fish every day.
