I will wire him the money. All I need is his routing number and account number!

That is a popular scam. Unfortunately, many older folks fall for it. Use to be phone calls. Caller says little grand child is in trouble on spring break/out of town field trip/etc and they need money to help. No time to waste. Go to Western Union and wire the money so baby cakes doesn't spend the night in jail. Gramps goes right down and sends anything they want.

All right people. Lets just simplify this. Everyone just send me the money and I will make sure he gets it.

Smells like a bucket of dead fish!

If this actually happens to someone, they can contact a U.S. Embassy, Consulate, or the Red Cross, and they will verify your identity and then assist in getting you home.
Never look down on someone unless you're helping them up.

Someone did this at the Home we had my parents at. Several of the elderly residents, did send money. Luckily,my father called me saying my son was in Canada and needed money sent to a wall-mart his car had broken down at... because of his age and not understanding the way info gets out now-days, my dad was never sure that my son didn't call him..
(because the person knew to much about the family)

If I still had the email from that Nigerian Prince that wanted to send me money, I could have forwarded it to Richard! (the email.... not the money... why be a middle man) DOH

I've lived and worked all over central and South America. The one thing to remember is if you find yourself in a bind (reads as someone stole your wallet/travel docs), get to the U S Consulate. They will get you home.
