Two nice ones, good eating too. Is that Buggs Island ? I was fishing at Lake Orange back in July 1989 when the guy who ran the concession on the lake came in with one he'd just caught. I told him it looked like a white bass but they did not grow that big. Best guess we had that day was a hybird. Turns out a new state and world record white bass, almost 7 pounds. its still the record. I got some pictures of it somewhere.

Yes, white bass, or "silvers" as we used to call them where I grew up in Indiana. Nice fish for sure.

Well I got fooled too, until someone pointed out the obvious. I have an excuse though. We use to catch a bunch of White Bass when they made spawning runs in the upper creeks of Santee Cooper. Also caught them schooling on Lake Murray. They disappeared almost overnight. The culprit???
DNR biologists have finally conceded that the white perch has decimated the White Bass. They follow them and devour the eggs and fry. Both lakes have a gazillion white perch in them now. They delisted them as game fish in SC and there is no limit on size or number.
They do make good catfish bait and decent size ones are excellent table fare when filleted.
