We had a group of us staying at one of the Occoneechee cabins for a couple of days. Friday we were held captive at the cabin by the winter storm. I did take a break from playing cards and did a little fishing there close to the cabin. Knew of some structure that was placed off a close point. Managed one ice breaker crappie but did warm my spirits. Saturday morning our boats were encrusted with about 3" of solid ice. I got a sheet of plastic covered the entire boat and trailer and put a propane tank heater under the cover to free the ice. Launched at Bluestone and flat line trolled all day. I am not a big fan of trolling and much prefer one rod casting a jig. We managed about 10 good fish under tough conditions. Had a real good time with my son and a good friend. March weather is soo unpredictable and variable. Looking forward to stable and warmer weather. FB

It sure looks COLD. Nice pictures.
It has been 43 years since I moved from Michigan where I had to bore holes in the ice to catch crappie, but "old man winter" finally found me this winter. One icy blast after another; can't believe how bad it has been.
I know that you guys worked for the fish that you caught on this trip. Just proof that "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". Better days are ahead - - - - - - - I hope. B-
Never look down on someone unless you're helping them up.
I know all about the weather out there . Side Kick and I drove out Friday night to get surprised by the sleet. We trolled Buffalo with poor results. Ice on the ramp, tree down, it was just a tough day. Glad you found some fish. Hey did you get stopped by the VDGIF ? We did. Had all the proper gear and all for him. I thought I saw him leave Buffalo and to Bluestone.
