    Default Chowan River 2/23

Fished Bennet's creek Sunday morning from about 730 til 12. Flat calm when we arrived. Unfortunately, the calm water meant debris everywhere which mad it almost impossible to fish and cover any ground. Had a couple of bites soon as we arrived, but only caught one bream and a small crappie. Moved up the creek to fish a few points, no luck. Had a couple of bites but that's about it.

Headed back to the area we started once the wind got to blowing a little. The trash was now gone, but the fish still weren't biting well. Caught 7 crappie, a bream, a bass and two rock. Not many other folks doing anything either. What I did see caught were small fish from 6-9 inches. We caught one right at 11 inches. All the crappie were in 16-22 fow. Caught em all at least 10 feet deep or a little deeper. Marked a lot of fish near bottom, but the just won't hungry I guess.

All in all beautiful day on the water. Warmed up nicely and the wind blew just enough to help you troll along. A lot of boats out there all with the same stories.... handful of fish and small ones at that. Maybe next time.

Need the water temp to get up some sounds like. Water temp was 10 degrees higher the last two years at this time. I think if it gets up some, they will put on the feed bag for prespawn.CF

Yup. I think it was like 46 degrees or there abouts. I'm ready for it come on up.

We used to camp and bass fish the Chowan in that area. Bennets Creek was where we always went for our fish supper! we would always catch enuff crappie , perch an brim there for a fish fry! we would thro that lil bucktail I ty and catch several different species on bout every trip. usually hang a few stripers, LMB an channel cats there too. Brings back good memories...
