Pq 2/9/14
Got a chance to do a little fishing Sunday. My fishin partner didn't want to get up at the crack of dawn, so I decided to stay close to the ramp. I know once he gets up, he wants to fish. Then I can run up river and try to find some crappie.
As I left the ramp, the water was dead calm and stayed that way most of the day. It wasn't until about 1:00 that the wind started to pick up and make trolling a bit aggravating.
Eased away from the ramp with the trolling motor about 0800 or so and long lined some jigs. Fished a couple of breaks that go from about 8 feet to 14 or so feet, Concentrating on the parts with wood on the bottom. At 1030, my lip snatching partner was ready to do a little fishing so I eased over to the ramp and picked him up from my wife. Went back out and caught a few more. Fished til about 130. Wound up bringing home 26 fat yellow perch, all females. threw back a few more, one rock and 3 bass. Water temp was 39 degrees. Seemed most of the nicer fish were in the deeper water, about 13-14 feet.
Needless to say, with it so nice and the yellow perch cooperating pretty good, I never made it up river to try and find any crappie. The couple of boats I talked to at the ramp said they caught a few but nothing to brag about. Guess maybe my decision to stay close to the ramp was a good one. Got some pullage, some nice fillets, and didn't burn hardly any fuel. Yup, It was a good day on the water.
