Just saw some soil samples from test borings in the lab labeled Lake Whitehurst ramp. Does this means it's finally going to happen? Kevin, Mr Rosenthal, anybody know anything

I have heard rumors that the city is building another ramp area, but they appear to be just that, rumors. I can't find anything official about lake access.
Why can't we do when there was no ramp. We would launch from the bank by the park entrance. Did it for many years

Well here is the latest and greatest. Lake Smith closes on June 1st, but they never alerted VDGIF that they were shutting down the lake access. I am not sure if that will snag them from shutting it down completely or not. I am still waiting on a word on that.
As far as Lake Whitehurst we have made no progress, but I have a proposal to make to them as soon as the Councilman calls me to let me know when he can go with me to make the pitch.
Word I got is that since the runway expansion was brought up the FAA said the airport had to secure all adjoining properties which meant that Lake Whitehurst Fishing Station which they owned had to be closed. It was only closed for that reason.
Then the runway expansion was shut down so they no longer needed to have the place closed but had no one to run it. From the conversations I had with officials the airport offered to donate it back to the city of Norfolk and they refused. So it remains closed.
Now I have something to work with and will be going to officials from the state and even Virginia Beach if possible to see if we can get that place open again. As far as this new ramp they plan on opening I know its been talked about but frankly do not see it happening and if it does parking will be at a minimum.
That is where we stand right now. You know how big business and government works. Its always a work in progress.
If the airport was willing to donate that property to the city, then maybe they would be willing to donate it to Virginia Beach or the state you know. That's my line of thinking as well as the man who shared
