Thread: Buggs 31 NWR 64 but....

Wednesday I hit Buggs for the first time since April and had to work hard to catch 31 crappie. The good thing is that six of them were between 1lb and 1lb 3oz, and they were fun to catch. Most were caught 15' deep over brush including this one on a black/pearl wasshoppah.



I did best casting Blue Ice early then a pearl BGBS. I put in at Eastaldn and yy two main spots did not produce a single crappie. I spent most of my time there but made a quick trip to Pan Handle and stuck my head into a few places on the way. The weather was just about perfect for this time of year. It was a joy to be out on the water and not at work. Water temp was 77-82.

Today I decided to hit the Northwest River (NWR) since I had not been there since February. Long story short, it was a day of dinks. Of the 64 crappie I caught I would have to say that at least half were between 6"-7". Dinks, dinks, dinks. I only managed two that were anywhere near 12" including this guy.



I caught most casting Kalins Money jig and vertical jigging a black/pearl wasshoppah. I caught a lot of them 9' down, right off the bottom with some as shallow as 4'. Water temp was 75-77 and the river was down close to 2' as you can tell from this pic.



While yesterday's weather was just about perfect for fishing in June, today was not. It was cloudy and cool all day and then around 2:00 it started to rain and never stopped. I could see it coming and got my rain gear on just in time. Funny that I was the only fisherman that I saw who had his rain gear with him. Lots of folks got wet today.

Jimb, there is still some of your structure hanging around and that is where I caught a bunch of them 9' down, right where it drops from around 6' off to water over 12' deep.

WTG Tap,looks like you had a good day at Buggs with some nice fish for this time of year. The other place looks great,we did not get any rain here today,good luck on your fishing

we fished from Buffalo down to goat Is yesterday, caught bout as many pounders as you, 5 or 6. but had nearly 50 that were 10 up to 12 inchers. had a one outa three keeper ratio, a lot of lil'uns. our best place was a main lake dock. most all the brush we fished held some fish. cajun cricket an FishDoc's World Famous Bucktail got the most action. Tap, ya need to learn more about the upper part of this great lake.

Nice Job Tap I hit NWR 2 weeks ago I had no keepers but caught about 25 dinks calico Smitty didn't show so I had to retrieve the boat alone (Pending surgery on Knee) so I wont be out much until after July
