    Default Suffolk

This past sunday i went looking for the spawning fish on cahoon. I fished from the t/t to the very back of the lake. The crappie have not made there move yet with only pike and grindle for a half day trip. I did catch some further up the lake on the way out. Kept 6 to bring home for dinner. It seem like when I have a day off the weather stinks. Oh well thats fishing. Gonna give it another this sat. Tight Lines JIM.B

Well it surely beats a day at work. I wish I was fishing yesterday despite the weather conditions.

Thanks for the report. You did better than me--I didn't even go. Hopefully, they will "be jumping in the boat" the next time!

What was the water temperature back there?

Won't be too much longer. The bed lines are forming.
Noticed pike roe all in the boat lately. Once the pike have finished spawning and move out, the crappie will move up.
I was thinking about taking a day off but haven't figured out how.

A day without a grinnel is a day a good meal is missed.

At least you got out and caught some. It will happen when the time is right, warm weather will soon be here, I THINK.

Glad you got on some. Bill and I hit lake Smith Saturday. Won't make that mistake, again. Boated two, and Bill lost a very nice one boat side. That fish looked to be 2.5"-3" across his back. I thought he was going to cry. Fished brush near shoreline as the entire lake is only 6' deep max. Could not buy a bite on any of the jigs we threw. Inventory this weekend so hopefully we will finally see a warming trend next week that sticks around so we can go back to Suffolk.

Where I started the w/t was in the upper 40's and when I got to the back of the lake the temps were 53. The fish I cleaned were full of roe. The males were not ready yet. I made a promise to myself to stick to Cahoon this year and that will be my game plan. For those who fish this lake I tryed both arms with only one crappie casting in the morning. I trolled with jig and minnow comb with only pike and bowfins. On the way out I did catch a few casting. acid rain was my best producer. If it ever quits raining I'll bring my camera.
