Thanks guys for the welcome aboard. I fished there in the early 90's and have started again over the past couple years. The grass that used to be there is gone and the bigger shock is the addition of gar. If they were there in the 90's I never saw them. They're in there now man those things are nasty.

Do you think a KAYAK can make it through there?

Yes a kayak can get through. You would have to get out of the yak to it under the pipe. I've never kayak'd before but I'd imagine that's quite a paddle from ramp to the pipe.

Tell ya the truth, I have been thinking of doing a quick roadside launch....I wonder if I could do it fast enough.

Might not be a good idea, but I have considered it for years

Back then I did not have a d/f in those days and it was tuff. I used to troll night crawlers or jig hopkins spoons. Whitehurst was a trophy walleye lake back then. If you go i'll tell you where I used to fish for them.
I've been going in there for the past month trying to get on the walleyes with no success. I've caught plenty of nice crappie and white perch though. Any advice on locating them would be very helpful. thanks

The Lake Whitehurst ramp was closed to deny public access to the Lake to provide a security buffer for the planned new, parallel extended runway. However, the FAA has denied the request for the new runway, so there is no good reason to keep it closed.

I suspect the airport authority is still hoping the FAA will reverse its decision, but once it is final it will be a appropriate to contact your State Delegate to get it reopened.

There's no reason for the lake to remained closed to the general public, I wish they would reopen it
