With the wind gusting up to 32mph I hit my favorite high wind lake, Burnt Mills. I know the chances of catching a decent crappie there are slim but at least I would be able to find a spot out of the wind and catch some crappie. I started out hitting my winter spots from past years but the wind was hitting these areas hard and after managing just two crappie I decided to head into the stump field to find a spot out of the wind. It took me a while but finally around 10:30 I found them. (The 9.5" crappie that is.) I was fishing water 18'-20' deep and catching them 16' down. Some of the crappie had mud on their fins. I did really well with a chartreuse/pearl Wasshoppah tipped with a white crappie nibble and got them casting a pearl and Key Lime Pie BGBS but did best casting Kalin's Money jig. I picked up 75 in one large area with the two earlier and two more right before I left I ended the day with 79 crappie. Only one at 11" and all the others must have been from the same spawn as it seemed that they all were 9.5". Oh well, with the wind gusting over 30 I can't complain, I had fun. Water temp was 47.
