i got to the chick at sunrise sunday. what a great morning!!! i fished 1/2 a day with the bite a little slow. all fish were caught in 13 to 14 ft of water fishing near bottom. most fish were caught casting kalin twister tails in different colors with crappie nibbles. i ended up catching 15 nice keepers and released them after taking pictures of the fish at the ramp. i did meet a fellow fisherman on the water and his name was dick. he lives on the river and he gave me some info on other places to catch the bigger slabs. he even took me down river to show me one of the places. what a super nice guy. the place he showed me was a best on high tide and i will give it a try when the tides are right. again thanks to dick for the info. i will post some pictures or should i say my wife will later today. tight lines JIM.B

Good report! what size jigheads do you use for tidal crappie?

Hey Jim,
Great to meet you on the river, and glad you had a good catch. Loved seeing your Tidecraft on the water. I'm convinced those old tri hulls, of whatever brand, are the best fishing boats ever built. I ordered parts for my trolling motor when I got in. Maybe we can hook up on the stump turn when I get back on the water. Don French
The tide definitely adds a different dimension to crappie fishing. Glad you had some fun.

when the way upper reaches of the chick (the dam area) turn into a parking lot go small and go slow .......or you just run on down the river away from the parking lot of vessels and fish large flats all by your lonesome with up to 1/4 oz offerings and be the first to find the ringers in the mix.....but then theres minners and vertical structure that produce year round....one crazy river though its as if a spawning run type fishery this time of year way different from other bodies of water as far as crappie go
WTG Jim, don,t know if I ever met you but Vic talks about how good you are with a jig, that's great, maybe you can give me some tips someday if we meet, always looking ways to improve my fishing, it's a shame that most of you live so far from where I live. I always love to see people master the jigs
