That's right...three citations at Diascund Reservoir yesterday!
Always concerned that my passengers enjoy a good day of fishing,
I allowed Doodlum to score all three of them. Two were big fat 15"+ specks
and the third (no picture taken) was a 48" gar. He also snagged a 14.75-incher.
Small by comparison, I landed a couple of 13"+ fish, too.
We didn't catch a large number of freckles, but the average size was much better than usual.
Maybe the hint of cooler water (WT: 83 -86) is what's needed in order to get the bigger fish to bite.
Other species were also plentiful, including gars (we landed a total of 10), greenies, and catfish.
Doodlum fought one monster for 10 min. before it broke off without showing its face. Most likely,
it was a jumbo CF. WP, ringers, and bream were also active & anxious to grab one of our minnows.
All in all, it was a great day to be on the water!

it's cold.. it's raining....it's too windy...
"fish on!!!"
(What a great day for fishing) lol.
Where were you fishing? I think you accidentally typed "Diascund"![]()
Pretty fish especially for August. How have recent rains effected water clarity? Some of the Suffolk lakes were really stained.
You don't carry a scale with you? A 15" crappie's weight can change quite a bit throughout the year. Always interesting to see where it's currently at.

That's a code name for a double extra-secret fishing hole that only gives up slabs to certain senior anglers!
Most of the flow into this lake comes through swamps that filter out the mud. By the time the runoff reaches the lake, it's only very slightly stained.
I haven't bought anything outrageously expensive for a few months, so maybe now's the time for a nice scale...recommendations? The only scale I have now is the spring type. It goes up to 50 lbs & is graduated in 8 oz. increments. It was perfect for last night's mega-gar, but not so good for one crappie. As Pete's net man, I handled the two cits & assure you they had thick shoulders & were well fed--you would have liked them! We put all the 13"+ fish back, so any time you want to come check them out, they are still in there (however the gars got the Radar treatment before they were released.)
good to see pete out fishing. well it looks like things are picking up out your way. those are some nice fish. keep up on the reports and i will make a trip out that way. looking foward to trying some of your honey holes. tite lines JIM.B
