Default Chick Lake 10, NWR 8.

I fished Chick Lake on Saturday until the thunderstorms chased my off around 1:30. Only managed 10 crappie. I had never fished there before during Summer and sure would of liked to of had the afternoon to continue trying to find them. None of my fall or springs spots produced. Talked to one other guy at the ramp and he said that he did about the same as I did. Surface water temp was 82-84.

Not happy with barely a half day of fishing I headed out to the NWR this morning. Started out picking up 3 dinks in NC then 5 more small ones in VA. Only 8 crappie, 3 catfish, and one tiny striper. Water temp 82. I left at noon as I get to play dress up and go to a wedding this afternoon.

Oh well, that's two itches that got scratched. I guess it's the Suffolk lakes for me until I decide to make another trip to Buggs.

Quite a bit of FAV (floating aquatic vegetation) but it was manageable.

That's where I put in. The restaurant is closed but they are still renting boats there.

When I fished there on May 5, I had arrived right at sunrise and the parking lot was packed. I was told that it would be that way throughout summer so I got there 20 minutes before sunrise and only one other boat was there and then I didn't see anyone else launch for an hour or so. However, by mid-morning there were quite a few boats on the water. One older couple seemed to be simply running back and forth annoying the heck out of me, then another larger boat came by doing the same thing. Not sure what either of them were doing.
