Made a trip to Bass Pro and picked up some Road Runners to supplement my meager Beetle Spin assortment..........then it was off to Northwest River. Managed to pick up a few crappie, a striped bass, and a few Large Mouth Bass. Everything caught on a white 1/16 ounce RR! Tried a few other colors, but that was what worked on this trip. Was thinking of trying one of the Suffolk lakes this wekend. I've never fished any of them. Do you have any recommenations? Thought about putting in by Northwest River Park as it's close to the house, and perhaps easier to find some structure to fish. Have a kayak but no depth finder to help in my search.

I gotta agree with Jet4. I think Western Branch would be your best bet right now.

Thanks guys! I just went to the VDGIF web site to get some information and it says a Norfolk boat permit is required. Do you know if that includes kayaks? Trying to find that information on the web site and no luck yet.

Belay my last! I found the info on the City of Norfolks site..............didn't realize they owned the lakes in Suffolk! $40 seems a little stiff for a permit. I'll take a drive out and look around. Thanks again for the tips!

A daily permit is $5.00 and when you reach age 62 the yearly permit is $10.00

Thanks Bill. Got a few more years to go before I hit 62, but after looking at the list of lakes covered by the permit, I think I'll sign up for the year. Going to hit NW River early and will head out to Oceans East to get the permit.

If you fish jigs pearl is a good color for Western Branch as well as pink/pearl. Most of the 47 I caught there on July 4 were 13' deep and of those 47, 37 were caught in the afternoon.
