    Default James River

My fishing buddy and I thought we would give the James River a try. I heard dragging minnows under slip corks was the way to go. We caught 15 crappies, 15 white perch, a five pound cat, and a 14 inch striper. Five of the crappies were over 12 inchs. I was wondering if the members on the board had better luck with plain hooks or jigs when fishing this method.

    Thanks, Steve

Welcome, Snafu. Five fish over 12" is a lot better than what I have been doing. Good job!

We had the lines set from four to six feet and most of the water was ten or eleven feet deep. We put in at Dutch Gap

BTW, I have used both-- hooks and jigs. Road runners jigs under bobbers worked GREAT last spring at Beverdam, but not at all at littlecreek. (don't know why?)
I perfer to use lightwire gold hook and minnows on my slip bobbers
