Thread: minnow rig for deep water?

The Capps and Coleman rig is one of the best deep water rigs I know of. with their's the sinker is between the two hooks,but dont be afraid to experiment with the weight on the bottom either.

"The Capps and Coleman rig can be spooled with a 8 or 10-pound line tied to the top or a size #6 or #8 3-way swivel. Then tie a 6-pound line about 12" long to the side eye of the swivel with a 1/32 or 1/16 oz. jig or #2 minnow hook. Then tie on about a 4 foot length leader to the bottom eye of the swivel. An 1/2 oz. egg sinker is then tied on about 18" below the swivel, and another 1/32 or 1/16 oz jig or minnow hook is tied about 12" below the sinker. In windy conditions, use a heavier 3/4 oz. egg sinker to prevent the rig from "bouncing" with the waves.

yup spreader rig with bell sinker.

I use what I call a dog ear weight... I use a #8.... this weight does not get hung up as bad as a bell weight.....
I put this 6 - 8 inches above a 2/0 Eagle Claw gold hook.....
Also I double hook the minno... this keep em from knocking it off... and you can catch 2 - 3 per/minno.....:D
Using a weight this heavy is great for the fall when they are 22 - 30 ft deep.... I can feel the thump better....

I was thinking of trying a similar rig except with a slip barrel sinker above the minnow just heavy enough to get down without slack line every time the boat rocks .

use a 1/2 oz. ear grip weight about 12 inches above your jig to get it down in deep water . works great and dose not effect the fish.
