Yellow perch in Texas

Are there any numbers of yellow perch in Texas lakes and ponds? I would have thought so but
I can't find anywhere that talks about targeting them. I like eating them and catching can be fun on ultralight tackle

nope , way back when, I came back to Texas as a kid , everyone was always saying they ketch lot's of perch ....
"perch" down here are any of the numerous species of sunfish that are all over the place in Texas....
I lived in Pennsylvania for 7 years and used to ketch actual yellow perch there , down here NEVER ....

many of the northern species are not available in these parts , we have a few spots with smallies, some with pickerel , some with walleye as well , beyond that they stock rainbow trout in a few spots in the winter and that there is about it ....
it is a totally different world when it comes to fish ketchn for sure ....
and to be very sure of this , you will see all kinds of things that live in the water here that you never seen up there as well ....

So crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed, redear and the likes are more of what I'll be looking for.

we don't even have true pumpkin seeds down here , but we got long ear sunfish and they look similar
we also got some of them river bream , some call them red belly sunfish
and wait till ya ketch you a big fat warmouth , them are nice fish
look like a crappie crossed to a bass
and most spots abound with green sunfish and then .....
here comes all the different hybrid versions of them in lots of spots as well
Texas has herds of sunfish in all sorts of colors and sizes for sure
and then .....IF ....
you find a spot stocked with coppernose florida bluegill , you will really be impressed with the size they get

Well that makes me feel better because I really like the flavor of sunfish/panfish. Haven't caught a bluegill in eons, only found yellow perch locally in number a couple years ago and they were all small and stunted but still make great little fillets for fish and chips. Found crappie here for the first time last year, really good breaded and fried and tried fish tacos for the first time with them.

Looking like we will be moving to the Palestine, Athens, Tyler area. I see lots of nice lakes, just have to hope I can find bank access that I can catch fish from.

bank access might be a chore to find , but to be sure if you can find the right dock and get permission to ketch off it , you will be in some KABOOM for sure
Tyler state park has some real nice coppernose bluegill in it btw
