We Launched out of Huxley Bay. We fished in that bay, 1 Bay south of there, and 1 more Bay south of there.

We pulled crankbaits on the main Lake in the channel from Huxley Bay to those other bays pretty much. Used bandit 300's. I troll heavy timber frequently. Have learned to slow the speed down from 1.2-1.5. If I get hung up pull the pole out of the rod hold and flip the switch and just let a lot of line out with loose tension. 8/10 the bait will float up off of the structure its hung on. I have learned it is usually the lip that gets wedged in the structure and not the hooks hooking it. Those hooks lay back flat to the bait and dont dangle while it moving. And that big lip on the 300's block the hooks from oncoming structure like a boxer using his shoulder to defend his chin. Its important that you use a 300 for that big lip. 100's and 200's will stay hung.

There definitely was alot of timber there! We got hung some but not as much as I thought I would have. But we never lost a crank. Also never caught a fish cranking hahahahahaha!

Good to know about Huxley Bay as I'm staying there for a week in Feb/March for the first time. Seems like good people that run a good operation so hoping for the best. Usually stay and launch out of Bill's Landing but sounds like Charlie has sold most, if not all of the cabins we have frequented over the years so time for some new water.

Did you check out any docks? Never went north?

No sir we never went north. We did try docks. Never had any luck with that. From what I have seen on some youtube videos on the lake and also huxley area everyone was bundled up in really warm clothing. So I would bet the time of year you are heading there will be better fishing.
