i was told they wasn't shallow when I rolled up by the locals just yet . I thought silly boys and set my float at 1 foot above my jig and ripped 4 out in 4 casts ! 2 to 3 foot of water and they was like what the heck ?
the fish came in waves right after last lite and they got shallower as it got later ....
got my line broke twice and lost all the heavy fish I hooked ....one of them days I suppose
but it was fun and I managed 17 or 18 crappie and 2 black bass and 2 yella bass ....
none of the crappie I "landed" were much for size ...and only about half er so made the 10 inch keeper size
but they hit like trains .....
so if you are getting reports they are not up shallow around dfw ....its either a tale ...
or they don't know how to ketch them .....
VERY slow drag parallel to the bank no twitches allowed ....
stay tuned stay on em and Never say never yawl ....

Have seen them in in mid 50's and really doing it. In 2013 we had some warm weather at the end of January where temps hit the 70's for like a week. So neighbor and I talked about going fishing. He wanted to go cast a white spinnerbait and I wanted to try some new kind of jigs. He said well if you catch a crappie then he would change to crappie. It was Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3rd and we didn't even go early because it was a bit cool, but went out at 8 AM. Knocked off at 12 noon for lunch and didn't go back out until 2:30 PM and quit at 5:00 PM. It was fantastic and we were the only boat out fishing for crappie. We got out limits (50) of all big Male Blacks and had a great day of fishing! She caught them in something like 7' of water which is where I also way fish spring time or within a foot of that long line trolling. The water temps that day I believe was low 50's!
Here is a picture of that days catch!
