    Default Canyon Crappie still deep

Surface water temperature dropped 7 degree from Saturday to yesterday on Canyon. This cold spell will drop it even more. In spite of the high winds and cold temperature yesterday morning, the afternoon warmed up enough to fish. We started about 1:30 and it did not take long to locate fish. The crappie are not in the trees, rather in the 18' to 24'channel about a foot or two off the bottom.

We caught them spider rigging with jigs tipped with minnows and Nano cranks by Matzuo. The bare hooks and jig hooks are Matzuo #2 red sickle. I like them because of their fine wire, which does not harm the minnow like heavier wire, and they will flex enough to pull loose when hung, most times.

We also caught largemouth bass and stripers. The crappie was 14 1/4",just 1/2" shy of the lake record, and the striper was 23".
