Your choice or 2d or DI (or both) will be a lot dependent on how you plan to use your sonar ....
If you traverse over and past structure/fish... Then either sonar (2d or DI) will "paint" a descernable image on the display as the sonar beam passes over and past the structure/fish...
If you sit motionless on top of structure/fish... Then the "cone shape 2d" sonar beam...might be easier to keep that structure/fish in the echo return area than the "thin slice DI" sonar beam...
Your style of fishing and what part of the underwater world you expect your sonar to show you will dictate which sonar beam "shape" (cone or slice) will best work for you...
Below are depictions for the 2d "cone shaped" sonar beams and the DI "thin slice" sonar beam...each is a separate and distinct tool best used in certain situations....
This is the 2d "cone shaped" sonar beams and how the echo returns are shown on the display...

This is the DI "thin slice" sonar beam and how the echo returns are shown on the display...(only the yellow triangle under the boat is the actual DI "thin slice" sonar beam...the grey area behind the boat is history that the boat has already passed over)...

A HB DI unit can use a dual xducer setup (2d xducer and a DI xducer) by using a TS3 Transducer Switch and make the needed changes in the "Connected Transducer" menu each time you want to see the 2d or the DI..This is only possible because the 800, 900 and 1100 series DI units all have the standard 200/83kHz 2D sonar capability (the 300, 500 and 700 series DI units do not).

The paddle wheel speed accessory will not be as accurate as GPS speed...(in realizing actual boat progression on the water)...
The paddle wheel speed indication is a direct result of water movement turning the paddle wheel at a certain number of "revolutions per second"....
It is entirely possible to be facing "into a 3mph water current" (such as in a river) and the not actually making any forward boat progression .....in this case the paddle wheel would be indicating a speed of 3mph...whereas the GPS would be indicating a speed of zero...
The paddle wheel accessory is utilized best by trollers in moving water because trollers want to calculate their bait's trolling depths as the moving water (such as a river) creates friction against the baits to affect how deep the baits will troll thru the water column....
Stick with the GPS speed to get the best accuracy for "actual boat progression" on the water (regardless of water current effects)...
