The 587c HD DI units were a Black Friday unit as were a few other DI models. Seems that they were quite popular and are still available at some retailers. I do not know if they will be added to the regular line-up for next year or not. If they are they will get added to the Humminbird web site. These should have the same sonar specs as the other DI units: 788ci HD DI, 597c HD DI, 581i DI, 570 DI, 385ci DI and 345c DI.

The default mode for the unit when it has only a power cable connected to it is to go into the "point of sale Simulator mode"...This is so that when no buttons are pressed after two minutes or when the unit is powered down that the unit will rest the menus to certain predefined settings to show the product off to John Q. Public.

The ‘forced’ Simulator mode...found by pressing the MENU button during the splash screen, is for practice using the unit and making changes to the Nav Data, viewing mapping information and making menu settings changes and having all of this remembered or retained by the unit when the unit is powered off.

    Pixel densities...

The different size screens have different pixel densities.
The 798 has 31,170.5 pixels per square inch.
The 898 has 17,533.4 pixels per square inch
The 998 has 12,755.7 pixels per square inch
The 1198 has 8,858.2 pixels per square inch

In the world of sonar displays, the 798 is HD.

Snapshots and recordings are saved directly to a SD card that is inserted into the unit….

-Remove the SD card from the unit and insert it into your pc card reader…a window should open showing files on the SD card…
-Create a new folder on your pc's desktop named “HB”….
-Transfer the files from the SD card to the “HB” folder…
-Click on any of the files that have a “.png” extension and your pc’s picture viewer program should open it to view the “.png” snapshot….

The recordings can be viewed in a third party software called Humviewer….

-Download Humviewer here…HumViewer - Viewer of Humminbird sonar recording files
-When it asks if you want to “run” or “save”…click “save”….
-When it asks where you want to save…navigate for it to download to the new “HB” folder…
-Open the Humviewer program that has now been installed…(I think version 67 is the latest)…

    When Humviewer opens….

-Click “Open” in the top left of the screen….
-Navigate to the “HB” folder until you find the files that you transferred from the SD card….
-Click on any file with a “.DAT” extension (or “.dat”…I don’t remember)…
-The recording file should load into Humviewer…(sometimes this takes a few minutes depending on how long a recording you made)….

Lots more info on Humviewer here… HumViewer

If you need more help …ask here or pm me….
