Thread: wtc took me fishing

Spend enough time on Reelfoot in the late spring listening to the yankees hollar at each other in the afternoons after a day of tough fishing and a case of beer and you realize they are more redneck than redneck. Its all part of the culture around here and i love it. I do my fair share of complaining about the rental boats and the people from neighboring states running around the lake like maniacs but truth be told its all part of the Reelfoot experience and I would not have it any other way.... I love this place.....

I am still a newbie to crappie fishing and this lake. The only thing I have going for me is that I spend alot of time on the water. I put alot of work into it both on and off the water. I study and i take it seriously. Im not afraid to try new things and it has paid off for me big time. Alot of people just like to catch them. I like to catch them but a big part of it is the thrill of the hunt. Yall know what i mean whether its fishing, hunting, or whatever. Its just a passion of mine. I still have a LONG way to go and alot of things ot learn before I could even call myslef a decent fisherman. But I will say that my "work ethic" is top notch. Im not the guy looking for the free tip every time I can get one. I like a free tip dont get me wrong but nothing is more satisfying to do the work and have it pay off. I just wish I had a few buds that felt the same way:D:D Ah heck, I like my buds

And Jim, 5 minutes with you and anyone can tell you got a little redneck in you. But it only takes a half second to figure out your a yankee.....:D

I think thats what fishing is all about. we are constantly learning new thing. the funny things about fishing is that they seem to be different depends on location. which make it interesting. I have been fishing for crappie for more than 20 year here in the midwest and would consider myself half way decent( had my share of 100s fish days) But my first trip at the foot, none of my usual trick work. It make me want to learn even more. But this lake is so huge . , So many places that looks good but so little time (kinda like a guy in a bar on a lady night) :oI am going to give it another shot on the 19th , wish I know where to start. Any help from a fellow fisherman would be truely apprciated.

Reelfoot is backwards from most lakes and not like man ylakes you will ever see. its dificult to learn and fish dont dont act the same in different areas of the lake. Its hard to stay on fish as well because they dont bite well in the same location for very long. The 19th should be right in line with the warming water temps. Trouble is that some fish got off a spawn a week ago. Mostly black crappie but some whites. Thats my guess anyway. What is going to make it harder this year is that the pads wont be easy to fish. They are up big time right now and by the time the fish move into them they will be thick! But no worries. I cant telly ou where to go because no one will know untill the time comes. I can help you eliminate some places but no one knows where they will be until the day of. And thats just Reelfoot for you.
