When you are forced to use the socks one on each corner keeps you going straight.They are a bit of a pain putting out/taking in but can save the day with high spring winds,Some guys prefer chains on ropes,staggered knots to allow putting out/taking in more less rope to adjust for wind strength.That works alright also.Occasionally use socks or chains.The two socks I use on a 19 ft boat are pretty big in the 40 something inch range from Cabelas.They are a bit of a pain but can keep you fishing on a rough day.
