Default Last time to fish this month 6/26/19

I know that the fish are tired of me sore lipping so many of them and I need a little rest myself. Grin. CUonthelake and I got out early again this morning to fish for crappie. The second day after the passing of a cold front always seems to be tougher for fishing than the first day after.

We stayed out until about 10:30 and had to work hard for the 22 crappie that we landed. I added a little Spotted bass and Candi got a nice White bass and a Bluegill. Candi showed out and caught the two biggest crappie that looked like twins at 13.25”.

We had to move around to several spots before we got onto the fish. Our best spots were two different roadbeds that had either bamboo or brush piles on them. The fish were deep and bites were subtle and very hard to detect.

Candi wanted a little tutorial this morning so our last 15-20 minutes were spent showing her how to find a roadbed and how to set up to fish. I helped her get a picture in her mind about finding stumps along the Wolftever creek channel and where I placed a bamboo hotel.

Water temp 79.6 and lots of current flow. Several color jigs were productive. I fished with MM and Slab Slayers and Candi fish with SS and Baby Shads. Silverfish, Ghastly Minnow, Blue Ice, Green Hornet, Lightning Bug, Gumdrop, Roly Poly, and maybe one or two more colors caught fish. I use Slab Sauce all the time and should report it but just forget to mention it.

I have some meetings to attend this weekend so Fishing is not on the agenda. I plan on resting up for July. BTW, the months of June and October are the best months for numbers of crappie for me. Have been for years and I keep records of the fish that we catch. Of course, when crappie are spawning, I usually fish for other species and leave the crappie alone or those months might be as good as June for me. I don’t know. Notice in the second pic how deep the jig is in a crappie’s mouth when you set the hook on a visual bite rather than wait for the thump.
