    Default Mixed Bag

Fall is here. The calendar says so, but the weather is a little slow to get on board. Hurricane Florence and her rains muddied the area lakes and caused TVA to pass millions of gallons of water down the country in a hurry. The rains did cool the surface temperatures and the current generation coupled with the falling water has caused the local fish populations to strap on the old feed bag. The green carp guys are chucking the top water lures as fast as they can throw them as the Shad are schooled up and running for their lives. Everyone in the lake has to eat, including the Specks.

The Black Crappie were hungry and thump the jig they did. The brush piles I had been fishing all summer were much shallower and some were even poking their limbs above water level. No worries, I took the electronics and located a few more that had been hiding out in deeper water all summer and after sampling a few in the 12-17 ft range I found the hiding places of Wednesday’s supper!

?I sure would NOT like to be a baitfish this time of year. I stumbled upon one pile that was loaded with white Crappie, all sizes and the take home count ended up being 6 Blacks and 5 Whites, a true mixed bag. Slabsauce and Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Blue Ice on a 1/32 light wire jig head was the preferred bait tonight.

?Bucket pic, Big Blacks of the night and Big Whites on the bottom. As you can see from the pics the fish were fat, healthy and full of Shad. More rain and cooler weather is coming, Welcome Fall!!

Is that the crappie suspended in 4-8 feet of water well over the top of the brushpiles? Great report, glad someone is able to chase them.

Coach, that is Shad/baitfish above the brushpiles. Our lakes are covered up with them right now, and I actually saw Crappie chasing them to the surface in one spot. I though it was bass/other predator fish scattering the bait but I actually saw a Crappie come up on his side and slurp his supper down right beside the boat. The waters are slightly stained from all the rain and current being pulled and the Crappie were feeding up on the bait.

ET, there is a bunch more water headed your way, just saw a flood warning for Blount Co and surrounding areas. The current generated down that way should have them positioned perfectly for your dock shooting expertise!!

It’s a total obstacle course back here n wolftever creek with the high waters, above summer pool right now. Big trees, logs, a detached dock rapidly floating by this am. A complete mud hole, An I got the itch to fish so bad. Gonna have to wait, sure wouldn’t want to ruin a lower unit out there. Glad you we able to get out there an load a bucket! Thanks for posting a report!
