    Default Good crappie day 7/23/18

Thankfully, I was able to get Gary Fomby in one more crappie trip before his school duties takes him off the lake. I suppose that the weather forecast kept a lot of people off the lake this morning because there were only 3 trailers in the Wolftever parking lot when we quit fishing at 11:10.

We did have to put our rain suits on about 8 am. The gentle rain was very pleasant to fish in and it kept the temp down. Most of our fish today came from 15-20 feet. Very few were up high in water column today. We saw a lot of fish signatures hugging the bottom but many were suspended in 18-25 feet of water. 84.3 degrees surface temp and up to 85.4 under the sunny sky at 11 am.

TVA increased flow at 10:00, but it was almost nil at daybreak. Color didn’t seem to make much difference although as the morning moved along, they seemed to change their preference in colors. Lights Out, Chartreuse Flash, Blue Ghost, and finally Electric Chicken Itty Bitty slab slayers fish in tandem with Chartreuse Flash worked pretty well.

Bonus fish was a spotted bass and one 8” Bluegill. I almost forgot, Gary caught a tiny Bluegill too. Grin. We fished vertical structure, deep brush and a couple of off shore spots and a short few casts on a road bed.
