Been trying to get this dead tree down for a couple weeks now. No new buds or leaves for the Spring, and my tree guy had an opening. I am pretty good with a saw and a maul but had to call a professional on this one.

The spawn has no doubt started with the two days of 80 degree temperatures, but I see from other reports some are still being caught deep. Will try to go this coming week and check some of my favorite brushpiles.

The tree was a Silver Maple, one of the softer maples. It probably would not last as long as other hardwoods. Cherokee is basically void of underwater structure, less rock, slate, and red clay. TWRA has placed many Fish Attractors in our lake and has been using Christmas trees as of late. Not sure how long they will last but some structure is better than nothing.

Those stacks of firewood look awesome! Its like money in the bank. I loaded up my stove with a mix of red oak, locust, and bois d'arc before I left this morning. Nothing like it.
