KY Lake Big Sandy

I did some very informal research, in regards to water clarity. I found nothing about growth rate, but did find this information

Environmental conditions also affect crappie populations. Research done in Iowa indicates that water level and clarity affect the success of crappie year classes. High water levels at the time of the spawn were found to result in high numbers of larval crappie. The only exceptions to this relationship were in years of low clarity (muddy) water. Larval crappies were never found when waters were very muddy during spawning season. The biologists concluded, based on previous research, the adult crappie abandoned their nests when muddy water creates low light conditions on the bottom. They did note that actual suffocation of the eggs may also have occurred.

On a series note,next time there's meeting come to it .After the meeting talk to the biologist .After the meeting you may have to wait your turn,there usually a line of people wanting to talk with him.

When do they do meetings? I would like to know

Every couple years,usually at the parir,tn fairgrounds.They have had at least 2 since 2012 ,I've been to both.

Or go to the KY C.Com shindig. There is always a marine biologist available. I believe the KY biologists are more active than the TWRA agents. I got a lot of good info from Paul Rister, KY marine biologist.

Posting something by our biologist about an upcoming meeting in Kentucky. Long way for some of you guys but should be informative.

FYI Kdfwr is holding a public meeting on April 5th at Kentucky dam village. 7-9 pm. Updates on carp efforts as well as the status of ky and Barkley sportfish will be discussed. As always, asking questions or voicing concerns is highly encouraged. Fisheries management is a team sport and you’re all on the team.

Crappie weights will be discussed for sure.

i plan to attend the meetings, but have learned more with phone calls to Nashville, plus visits to HQ in Nashville.
i do agree that Kentucky is a better resource. Tennessee seems to be focused more on trout.
