I love to fish Reelfoot. First week of April, I would plan on spiderrigging in water 10 ft deep or less. Usually, I will start in 10 FTW about 6 to 8 ft deep.....and as the day progresses move shallower, fishing 8 ftw and then 6 and even 4 or 5ftw. I always fish about 2 ft off the bottom depending on water depth. On a good warm sunny day the fish will move toward the trees and grass around the shoreline, so one poling the trees and grass with a jig can be productive. For Spring fishing, I favor the areas of Keystone and Swan Basin depending on wind direction. I'll often put in a Champy Pocket, Keystone or White's Landing. Another favorite Spring-time area is Moultrie Field. Shallow Spiderrigging there with jigs and minnows can be very productive. You can also vertically jig fish the dead Lilly Pad stems around the shoreline. Water is high enough right now at Reelfoot that you can pretty much motor anywhere on the lake without much trouble, and you'll see people running pretty fast. However, unless you know where you are, there is always a chance you might hit a stump or log, so be watchful and careful.
