My fishing slowed down in 2017. Not only in numbers of fish caught, but in number of trips taken. I know most think that I fish 5 days a week, but that just isn't so at my age. Grin.
Here are my totals for the 2017 year. Crappie 1062 keepers, though most were thrown back. I don't fish the spawning period when crappie are easiest for most to catch. My main months are June and July.
Rockfish and Walleye were poor for me this year. Made several trips to the Bar, but didn't have a fantastic day any trip.
I can't think of a single trip where I fished for Smallmouth bass, so most that I caught were while fishing for something else.
I caught more Largemouth Bass, (75) while crappie fishing and Striper fishing. I didn't fish a single trip for Spotted Bass, but did catch 50 for the year.
A pretty good year for White Bass, 330. They are my favorite fish to eat. All are good, but WB is my favorite.
48 Yellow bass, 76 Drum (my pets and namesake), 71 Catfish and 160 panfish. I had 85 fish that were in the "other" category. eg Paddlefish, golden shiners etc.
I probably did more scouting this past year than in any other year and I found it to be almost as much fun as catching fish. To coin Yellbert's favorite expression - "I ain't lying'.
I missed fishing for the Red Breasted Sunfish this past year. I hope to change that this year, the good Lord willing. I also want to fish for Shellcrackers more.
This past year was more rewarding for me although I caught fewer crappie. But I retired from fishing crappie tournaments this year so that I could fish for other species and in that, I really had a great time. Sometimes, less is more, if you get my drift. LOL
