    Default Afternoon on The Bar


    Had a few hours to burn so I fished brush in 20ft of water. Fish were suspended 8 to 15 ft. Caught 17 with 9 keepers . Had 7 of 9 blacknose
    with one 14 inch blacknose

    I have heard that the black nose crappie are stocked fish. Anyone know of this is true?

    Congrats, I have noticed that the black nose, tend to grow fast. I hope that's true.

    Yes, it is a "stocked" fish at Watts Bar .... and hundreds of other lakes. The Blacknose Black Crappie does occur naturally in some lakes/river systems in 20 or so different states. They're just regular Black Crappie with a marker gene that creates the black stripe.

    Biologists are unsure about the evolutionary design for the black stripe. But, I wonder if it's not something on the order of what football players do by making black marks under their eyes to cut down on the glare of lights.
