    Default Finally!

Well, after less than stellar results the past few weeks, we had some free time Tuesday evening. We pulled into the parking lot at the launch and found only one truck and trailer in the lot. At 89 degrees in late September, I wasn't surprised. I had a milk run of spots in this area, and I had a couple of new spots that I had found on the Navionics that looked interesting. I idled through a creek mouth on the way to spot number 1, and did a little scanning. Nothing! So on to #1. I had to dodge a couple of jet skis (I thought they quit after Labor Day?), and just as I entered the first cove, the motor just died. I tried to restart, but it wasn't happening. Oh well, give it a few minutes, and go ahead and fish the brush. The fish were there, but they just weren't very interested. We caught four or five, but only two were keepers. I had tried to start the motor a time or two, but still no luck. Finally, around 6:30, we decided it was time to begin the two mile "troll" back to the ramp to avoid darkness (a 40 lb trolling motor won't scoot you home in a hurry!). It was a pretty evening, and I had allowed plenty of time, so I just set back to try to enjoy. I shot a text to my mechanic that his services would be needed! He replied with a couple of questions, so I just called him back. After all, the one thing I had was time! He asks this, that, etc., and so on. Full disclosure, I am not mechanically inclined. He finally said that he would come check it out on Wednesday, and just before hanging up, he asked the "Hail Mary" question. "The kill switch is connected?" I am going to end this segment of the story right here, but this is why I use this guy! He had a paycheck waiting for him, but he tried trouble shooting over the phone! He's fair and honest, and he has a customer for life!
So, with a little time before dark, and a running motor, I felt there was time for the "special" spot! The "blips" were on the Down Imaging, but same story....no interest. Just as the sun set, the switch flipped to "on"! It was like spring again, and there was some size! The water temp was 81-82, and they moved up to about five feet deep in 28 FOW. We invited 7 (the perfect number) home for dinner!Name: IMG_0703.jpg

Glad you had some luck finally. We've all had those "Duh" moments with our boats. Good news is, it usually only happens once. Next time you'll definitely check for the switch.
