I took my number one crappie student out this morning for some crappie fishing. It was slow on the crappie, but the highlight of the trip was the 28.66 lb Flathead catfish that I landed on 4 lb test line and a medium light 6' Cabelas IM-8 spinning rod. That is my personal best on Flatheads and also on 4 lb test line. Previous was a 24.25 lb Blue catfish a few years ago. I actually snagged the beast in the pectoral fin and it took over 20 minutes and 125 yards downstream to bring it to the grippers. Candi did a fantastic job on the grippers. It weighed 13 kilograms on my scales which computes to 28.66 lbs.

The crappie came on Bobby Garland jigs and the big catfish came on a Bassassin Pro Tiny Limetreuse Glow on one of Curtis Hobbs' lite wire hooks that was turned into a circle hook by the Flathead. Grin. It doesn't surprise me that Candi beat me badly on the crappie catching, but overall, the fish were not active for us. Full moon today and the major feeding period is just a little after noon today, but we both had to be off the water by 9:00 AM as we both had appointments to meet friends and family.

Thanks for going with me today, Candi and for all the help getting the catfish into the boat. You did a great job on the videos and pics.
