After finishing all my chores for today, I decided to hit the water this afternoon for a very short foray with the intent of locating and catching crappie. I fished from 3 until 5 PM. I landed 8 keeper crappie and 4 short crappie. No other species wanted to bite a crappie jig today. Grin. I did have one fish break my line, but I think that I had a bad loop knot.
I fished with Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" Shads and caught keepers on florescence glow, Chicken on a Chain, and Lime Green. Best was the florescence glow, but I did throw it much more than the others, so there may not have been much color difference today.
The fish were caught on blowdowns near my launching place. I stayed very close to the ramp today, not venturing more than a 1/2 mile at the most. I didn't have enough time to run all over the lake today. Grin. My technique was to cast near a blowdown and count down to about 4 and then start a slow steady retrieve and it seemed to work just fine. The fish were up and I caught 5 keepers on the first tree. I went on to a bluff and caught two more keepers, checked a couple more places nearby and came back to the first tree and caught one more keeper and a short crappie.
Then I called my wife to bring the truck back to the ramp and let me load up. Sure was nice out there today.
