Thread: Dock ! Dock ! Who's there?

Summer is coming to an end and most likely my night time fishing will be coming to an end soon also. With cooler weather just around the corner, in the future, you will most likely find me single poling somewhere during the daytime. Anyhow, thinking back on this summers outings and how some of these night stalks were successful and how others were bust, thinking about fishing over white, green or no light and after fishing a lake here and one there, whether it be over a brush pile or drop off, none of these have been as consistent for me as docks have. I'm not talking about fishing just any ole dock here. I'm talking about fishing a lighted dock, preferably in deep water, where the lights stay on consistently all night long every night. Those are the best ones! The bait fish and crappie get in the habit of hanging out in these locations to feed. That's why constant lighting is so important to these areas. Docks that are only lit a couple hours after dark just on the weekend are not preferred but hey give it a shot. Who knows what may happen. Also, don't let the low light docks fool you either as you could be passing up on a few bites you would of otherwise had. Don't be fooled into thinking that the fish will only be in the brightest area. Some fish will be there but other fish will hang out in the outskirts of that light so be sure to cash in on these bites too. Fish may be caught in all depths of the water column. One fish may be caught at 10 ft depth then the next fish may come from a 15 ft depth so you may have to cover the entire water column from the surface to the bottom before moving on. Last night my jig had to be dragging the bottom at 20 ft depth in order to get a bite. When things would slow, I would change the angle of my boat and pick up another fish or two then repeat as necessary. So, in closing, I am going to include a few example pics of types of places I stopped to fish this summer.
