Thread: Big Sandy Area Help Needed

I am struggling to catch a fish in the Big Sandy area, I bought a weekend place there, did a huge remodel, spent a fortune and I haven't caught much of anything. I have been pulling crankbaits four times now in the last 4 weeks with nothing to show for it. I know I am not great at it but I usually catch some when I do it on Percy Priest Lake which is one of the most heavily pressured lakes there is. I thought for sure I would get the hang of it on Kentucky Lake but so far it has been very depressing. I am not asking for your exact spots. I am looking for someone experienced in Big Sandy to give me some advise on what type of area to pull cranks in on Big Sandy.

Here is what I have done so far:
- Pulled Arkie 350's varying the colors along the channel that winds back through main lake in big sandy. Depth of area varies from 13' - 28'. NOTHING
- Pulled Arkie 350's from under the power lines in 17' of water and on to the flat down from the power lines that runs from 14' - 17'. NOTHING
- Pulled Arkie 350's in the cove on the right (looking down from Paris Landing bridge) that is around 1/3 way down in Big Sandy where the popular ramp is in the back. Depth was 14' - 18'. NOTHING
- Pulled Arkie 220's and 350's in Buchanan cove in various water depths. NOTHING

Just need a little guidance to point me in a direction so I can figure it out.

Not trying to start anything but while my arkies do catch fish, my bandits out fish them. Might try bandit 300s. Been fishing north the past month but regularly fish sandy. Shad colors, mad cow, mistake, bubblegum, crawdad, have all produced for me. Find bait balls or just run the channels, 10-14 foot down about 1.7 mph.

I agree with crp4570,I usually have better luck with bandits,and add a chrome ,and a awsome pink to the colors he suggested and I believe you will catch fish.Also hit points and humps and this time of year I like 14-18 ft of water if I can't find any suspended in deep water

I agree Tncrappiebass it can get aggravating but you are not alone!! Fished from the powerlines down to country junction and never caught the first crappie. Was using Bandits and caught catfish and yellows, stay at it and hopefully things will get better for ya. I wish I could help more but I am trying to learn the area as well.

What area did you buy a weekend spot in if you don't mind me asking?
I have a spot at Britton Ford.

I have a house over on Duncan Drive near Buchanan's Marina. It has a convenient ramp at the end of the road.

My house is the little blue one on Duncan Drive on the right. I just remodeled it on the inside. Starting to work on outside. Hope to add a screened front porch in the next few weeks. I will ride over to your place on the golf cart one weekend to say hi. LOL.

Never fished K lake ever but I do see something missing in your pattern that was always in mine. I did best in Woods res near Manchester and went as shallow as 10' and back to deeper water and picked some up during the transition and some as I made the turns and some went slow while the other side went faster. When I did find fish I hit a waypoint and in the end just kept running through the waypoints and catching lots of fish. Good luck, it's a ball once you figure it out. Bump Canepole, he lives near there and does good sometimes. Baitballs are an important component also.

I see no where do you mention what speed you are running or are you marking any baitfish or thermocline depth. This will help with finding fish.
