    Default a little advise please

Hey guys, I am going to Big Sandy for my first time. I usually run from Ky Dam to Blood River with an occasional run to Paris Landing. A buddy and i are going to pull the Sandy and with the winter pool I would like some advise of areas to stay away from.

I have a 1975 edition tn navigation map. The only local named areas I know are, Mansfield Island, Budwiser Beach area, Eagle bay, Reds Ridge, and either 3 Ceders or 3 Trees. If you can give areas related to these areas to use caution in during winter pool, I would appreciate it. Don't want any secret spots to fish, just want to be safe pulling. Thanks in advance.

Thx for the followup DTG. We put out at Antioch, my first time on the Sandy. Meet two others putting out. We both asked the other for any advise due it was each our first time and chucked at our individual answers. We parted wishing each a good day. Had an old black and tan Walker coonhound see us off with several deep bays. He looked like he had seen better days. We pulled across from the island and caught a few, but only 3 were keepers.

Went further up toward country junction finding a spot out of the wind to drown some minnows and only caught 2 more, they were too short to keep. Meet another fisherman in the same area and he said all he had caught were 4 little ones also. Watched him off and on for the next several hours and didn't see him catch anything else. Observed about a dozen other boats scattered further up toward the country junction but did not see anyone catching anything. Compared notes with one more boat and they said they had only caught 2 little ones.

Went back to our first pulling spot and pulled jigs again but struck out. Pulled the power lines with another little one caught and was about to leave thinking it was a dry hole and a boat with two elderly gentlemen pulled up circling a few times and dropped the tm. They then proceeded to land several nice crappies in quick secession. They were using jigs but didn't intrude on there outing. After that we headed in and loaded up.

Its was windy early and overcast. The sun popped out later and was a nice day. Saw a mature bald eagle several times and he sure made the day. Hope to see you on the water. My boat is in my profile and i have a crappie.com sticker on the windshield. I usually wear an floppy old hat and fall in the ol geezer category. Stop by and say hi.
